Check Engine Diagnostics
A check engine light can come on for many reasons. Anything from a loose or worn fuel cap, miss fire, catalytic converter or even mechanical damage in rare cases. Check engine lights should never be ignored even if its something simple that you may already be aware of. A light that's been on for a long time for a simple reason makes it impossible for the computer to alert the driver when a major problem is occurring since there is only one light for all possible faults.
A few of the engine diagnostic areas we specialize in:
- Computer Diagnostics
- Computer Diagnostics (Check Engine Light, Air Bag Light, etc.)
- Dealer level diagnostic testing
- Electrical Diagnostics
- Electrical System Diagnosis & Repair
- No-Start Diagnostics / Driveability Diagnostics
- Crank-no start
- No-crank no start
A check engine light comes on for many reasons. When the light comes on it alerts the driver to a potential problem and when the technician scans the computer it leads them towards a diagnostic direction. Once a diagnostic direction has been taken its up to the technician to test wiring, sensors, individual components and find the root cause of the check engine light, also known as a malfunction indicator lamp.
- Check the input and output signals of each sensor
- Check the ignition system
- Check for misfires and detonation
- Do compression tests
- Check all computer pins for ohms and resistance
- Perform power balance
At Tony and Brothers we use vehicle/manufacturer specific diagnostic equipment to check various vehicle systems and sensors. A check engine light typically finds a fault in a system allowing a fault code to be stored and helps give the technician a diagnostic direction.
The use of advanced diagnostic aids allows the technician to see what information the computer is gathering from various sensors. These tools also allow bi-directional control over various relays, vacuum switching valves or any other output control the computer may use. This allows the technician to further his diagnosis on many complex engine and emission systems.
